Shooting at Missouri Botanical Garden is an obvious hobby of mine. It's probably the most photogenic park in my area. I was shooting the freshly returned Chihuly "walla walla onion" pieces in the main pools. After the glass was added, they added the lily pads back in as well. They are all growing well and some are starting to pop flowers. The point of this trip was to try out my new, well used, Nikon 70-300mm VR lens. Getting used to composing using compression was really interesting and exciting. This is definitely one of the bigger winners from the day. The purple really jumps off the filled blurred frame of one of the Chihuly onions. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Aloe Containing
I was doing some random shooting with my 45mm f/1.8 on my Olympus E-PL5 after a storm. Among various neat shots I got of the water on all of our plants, I got this one. One of the last shots I took and one of my favorites. This is a "candy corn" aloe after the orange and yellow spikes it gets. You can't tell here, but this is a rather sizable Aloe. Getting in close to the center, I picked up tons of detail and the nice clean rainwater sitting in the bottom of the Aloe. POTD - Three At Once
As promised, a day or two after our first little Echinopsis cactus bloomed his one little bloom, our big one pumped out three blooms at one time! Since these are such short lived blooms, I was very surprised to see more than one, let alone three! I used my flashes the next morning at about 9am to get this shot. I used them to knock out the ambient light so we would have no distractions. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Little Brilliant Bloom
One of our small Echinopsis cactus bloomed a couple of nights ago. I've posted a shot before of a bloom we got off of one of the bigger ones, this little guy is about half the size of that one. These cactus put out the most beautiful flowers I've ever seen, and it's exciting that they bloom over one night, usually around 1 to 3 am then are done blooming by about 8 or 9 am. We have several of these cacti with buds for potential flowers, but our biggest one has got 3 big buds on it right now. It's incredibly possible that they will all three bloom together! I'm bringing home some light modifiers for my flashes tonight to have at the ready. It will be beautiful and of course it will be photographed. :) Please excuse the ugly half dead aloe in the background, I didn't pay attention to what was behind it. Enjoy!

POTD - Glass On Glass In Front Of Glass
Another shot of the beautiful Chihuly pieces the Walla Walla Onions in front of MOBOT always stunning Climatron. I've been trying to get better at utilizing my tighter focal lengths. The Olympus 45mm f/1.8 is a very sharp lens but with the crop factor that's a 90mm! Which is pretty tight for me, but I made it work and actually had a lot of fun. Can't wait to get out to get more of it practiced. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Catching Some Rays
This was an idea I had on the fly as I past by these beautiful flowers at MOBOT. They were pretty tall, and the morning sun was blasting them and creating some awesome shadows in the process. I snapped a few and realized the potential. I ended up with this 5 bracket HDR. That Olympus 17mm f/1.8 does not flare often, but when it does it makes it count. POTD - Return Of The Wallas
This is of course the Climatron at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The great difference is the return of the Dale Chihuly "Walla Walla Onions". They hadn't been in the center pools due to refurbishment on the pools, but they are back and looking better than ever. This is one of my more favorite shots from the day, as the reflections showed up beautifully on the almost still water. POTD - Storm Rolling In Over Devil's Rope Ranch
As I said in my last post, after we had gotten all the camping gear packed up and were relaxing at the house with Pat and his family, we saw a little storm cloud. In about five minutes that little storm cloud turned into this. We decided after Jenea was able to tear me away from snapping photos that it was time to leave. I thought this represented both the scope of this storm as well as what an awesome view their house has. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Calming Campsite
This is the direction our tent was facing when we went camping over the weekend. Like I said, we were at my buddy Pat's property, so having a nice open spot right on the river was awesome. We lucked out with such great skies over that weekend. Clear skies both nights for the new moon, white fluffy clouds Saturday, and a wicked storm rolling in Sunday just before we left. Luckily for us we were all packed at that point. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - New Moon At The Devil's Rope Ranch
Jenea and I spent the weekend with our good friend Pat at his house. He has a lot of land well outside the city. This weekend was specially chosen because of one big reason for me, new moon. New moon means no moon, which means tons of stars. Then the later it got the more clear it became, I was going to get to shoot the Milky Way! Keep in mind everyone, this is my very first time shooting stars, much less the Milky Way. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Lights, Camera, Over Action
Inside the Carthay Circle shop in Disney's Hollywood Studios, I found this light fixture. It was quite beautiful and even more so mixed in with the other architecture. I of course have been in the midst of planning our October trip, so the random Disney photo from last trip is helping keep my excited at bay. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. POTD - Lightning With No Storm
A closeup and understandably ultra wide shot of the Arch. I decided to include the bright light in this for the fact that at this angle, the Arch looks like it's got lightning on it. That combined with the awesome clouds, I can't complain when things come together. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!
