POTD - Reflections In Blue

I took this on another off day at MOBOT. :) I was tooling around with a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 on my D90 with some more bokeh panoramas. This isn't one of them, just a straight shot out of the 50mm. I will say from shooting with this lens several times and selling it at work a lot, I don't understand why all the other manufacturers don't update their design to something similar because it's stunning and relatively unmatched just like all the Sigma f/1.4 glass. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Vertical With Spotlights

Yet another take on the classic St. Louis Gateway Arch reflection shot. I really like the exposure and colors here, didn't like the gross stuff growing in the water though. Alas, if that's all that bothers me I can live with that, especially since this won't be the last attempt at this sight. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions or comments are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Art Through The Trees

This is from Laumeier Sculpture Park here in my area. I love this park and while shooting bokeh panoramas there this day didn't turn out too well, I did walk away with a couple nice single shots like this one here. I was intrigued that the grass turning more yellow for fall was playing off of the warm tones in the sculpture and the DoF would draw the eye through the trees to the sculpture. Please let me know what you think, as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Shooting with The Fishes

This is another moderately successful bokeh pano. The original composition had to be scrapped due to stitching errors. Those were more than likely caused by my inexperience shooting such tight panos handheld. I'm going to keep practicing and hopefully end up with a very useful and versatile tool in my bag. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Stan The Man At Busch

This is the Stan The Man Musial Memorial and third base entrance at Busch Stadium. Now I'm not the biggest baseball fan, but that would be the sport I follow out of everything. Like this night, we went after the game so that we could shoot with the lights on. The last time I went to a game I didn't even do any shooting, just enjoyed. It's a beautiful stadium, both inside and out, and every bit as essentially baseball as our old Busch Stadium was. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions or comments are both welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Flares And Curves

I took this the other night while night shooting through downtown STL. I was at a super low, super wide angle here and because of my HDR of very long exposures, I ended up with an insane amount of flaring. Flares and streaks going every which direction, so I decided to turn it black and white. That did wonders for this photo. I was about to trash this when I figured to try that, and after some tinkering in Silver Efex, I have something I quite enjoy. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Take Me Out After The Ball Game

A shot from our downtown outing this past Saturday night. We were getting down there just after a Cardinals game had ended. It was good because the traffic and crowds were gone by time we made it to Busch Stadium. That way we could take our time shooting photos. With all the lights all over this area, lens flare was a tough element to battle, but we made it work. I've been doing a lot of shooting here lately leading up to our trip to WDW, so I think I'm doing ok and am feeling very good about the photography skills I'm taking traveling with me. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions or comments are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Rolling Down The Fountain

This past Saturday, my friend Scott and I ventured back downtown for some more night shooting. I will say that it was quite successful. We had good weather, some good shots, and I even learned some things which is a plus.

This is a shot of Kiener Plaza downtown looking further downtown. Had I made a 180 degree turn, you would've seen the backside of the old courthouse, another fountain, and then the arch. This view to be specific - St. Louis Sunrise .

I chose to go with this vertical composition because it include more in the frame without being distracting. I liked showing all of the fountain, but the layering in this shot is much better. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Japanese Bokeh

Japanese Bokeh by Jeff.Hamm.Photography
Japanese Bokeh, a photo by Jeff.Hamm.Photography on Flickr.

After talking with friend Jeff Krause, he's SpreadTheMagic on Flickr, I learned a new technique. I took a Nikon 85mm f/1.8G prime lens out to try some bokeh panoramas. While most of them didn't merge right for whatever reason, I'll have to look into that, this one came out fairly well. I need to do some more research in this to get a bit better at shooting them, but all in all for a first try, I can't complain. I know I'm going to end up getting hooked on these things and my hard drives are going to hate me. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - We Went That'a Way!

If you've looked, read, or followed along with my stream for any length of time, you undoubtedly know that I love Disney signs. Around Magic Kingdom and in particular in Frontierland they are especially fun. As if I needed something to help keep me excited for our upcoming trip. This shot reminded me of everything on this end of MK that is going to be new to us. The new Haunted Mansion queue was still under construction last time we were there. Splash Mountain got refurbished and I haven't ridden that myself since I was pretty young, and now am just not a huge fan of wearing wet clothes. There's also the new queue elements in Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

I'll have to say that's the biggest "advantage" about not being able to get down to the parks but every several years. There's always something new and different to go see. Of course I'd like to visit more often, and some day that might be an option. For now, I will focus on this upcoming trip and the surprises and special things that might happen. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Frenchtown Market

This past Saturday after work, my friend Scott and I decided to go do some night shooting. Without going all the way downtown, which is sketchy at night at best, we decided to stick around home and not go too far. We ended up in old town St. Charles, which is horribly lit at night by the way. I've been trying to get in some night shooting practice before Photomagic gets here, just to stay sharp. This was a three shot bracket and one of the only shots out of the limited number I took that actually came out. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Tiki Tiki Tiki Detail

This isn't my favorite shot by any means, but the composition is one I liked a lot. As far as exposure and processing are fine, but I don't like that I didn't included that last little peak, and as much as I tried, the distortion from my UWA lens is making things just that little bit off. I post this, one because I needed a Disney fix getting close to my trip, and two because I want to showcase those "so close" shots. The ones I'm so close to absolutely loving, but because of one or a couple things, I'd like to retake it to show how my skills have improved. Nevertheless, I still love the detail in this area so couldn't deny this shot. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!
