POTD - New Toys!

New Toys! by DisHippy

Over the holiday season at the camera shop I work at, Olympus was running a contest through the month of December. If any one person sold a certain number of their PEN and OM-D cameras, they would win an Olympus E-PL5. Guess what! It arrived a couple of days ago for me. This is going to start me down a road to an OM-D that will eventually make it's way to second body to a D600. I snagged the Olympus 45mm f/1.8 and Samyang 7.5mm fisheye lenses out of our used case for a steal, with the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 on the horizon next. This is a perfect little system for short days, or even long hikes. The quality coming out of mid to high end mirrorless cameras is outstanding, and I for one can't wait to see where it heads. I'm of course not ditching all my Nikon gear for this, but for the moment, I will be doing a fair amount of my shooting with them I think. The prime lenses are among the sharpest lenses I've ever shot with! I've got some 45mm f/1.8 samples I'll be posting shortly. Happy shooting!

In search for a photo for today, I happened through my Disney backlog photos, and happened across this little gem. I did a little more work on it and was gravitated towards this tighter vertical frame. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated! Enjoy!

POTD - Iced Over Sunrise

This is from early this month after our first snow of the year here in St. Louis. I went over to the Creve Coeur Lake waterfall to catch the sunrise peak over the ridge above the frozen waterfall. I really had a tough time with the white balance here, but I think I've got it balanced ok. Please let me know what you all think of it. Any suggestions are always welcomed. Thanks. Enjoy!

POTD - Beatnik Bob's

I finally have a shot of this entry way that I'm happy with! I actually took my time, got things right in camera, which made processing a breeze. This is a bar and classic arcade on the top floor of our St. Louis City Museum. I've said it before, but if you've been to St. Louis and haven't been to the City Museum, you are doing a disservice to yourself. LoL. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions or comments are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Sharp And Soft

Sharp And Soft by DisHippy
Sharp And Soft, a photo by DisHippy on Flickr.

This goes back to last October when Jenea and I went with my parents and younger brother down to Branson, MO. Jenea and I checked out the Butterfly Palace and got some pretty nice shots in there. Surprising enough, the lighting in the butterfly area was quite good. This is definitely one of my favorites because it took me a little work to get it. Every time it heard the auto focus, it opened and closed it's wings. I wanted the better looking wings closed look, so I switched over the manual focus and got my shot right away. LoL. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Arch In Sky

Arch In Sky by DisHippy
Arch In Sky, a photo by DisHippy on Flickr.

Flickr, do not be alarmed! I am still alive and here is evidence that yes, I do still take photos. LoL. Working in the most popular local camera store in the area during the holidays was insanely busy. I spent more time at work than I did at home so Flickr as well as a lot of interweb surfing was put on hold.

A couple of days ago, however, a friend of mine I work with Scott and I went out shooting on our day off. We first hit the Gateway Arch grounds with our ultimate destination being the St. Louis City Museum. We did have some nice white puffy clouds in the sky and I was able to catch some reflections in the arch itself. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!
