POTD - Depth Of Peppers

Nothing terribly special here, I spotted these at the Botanical Gardens in the home garden section. These decorative peppers caught my eye because of the complimenting and the contrasting colors against that vibrant green. I was shooting with my 70-300mm VR, which I still love, so I was already shooting details. I've also been working more depth of field techniques into those shots. Not simply having just a subject and background, but a little layering. All these things are leading up to what will more than likely be my most memorable Florida trip ever. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Rushing Towards Walkways

This is a set of shots I grabbed while at MOBOT the other day with some friends shooting. This waterfall flows towards a small bridge, and sitting on it and hanging my camera down by my feet, I captured this. It was really quite bright, so I did what I could to get some blur out of the water. Overall I'm pretty happy with the result. The lighting could be better of course, but there's always next time. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Dragon Pools

Dragon Pools by Jeff.Hamm.Photography

Yesterday, some friends and I went to MOBOT for some shooting. Having a group to go shooting with was a nice change from my usual solo trips to the gardens. The humidity was a little higher than it was the last time I was here, so that meant the dragonflies were out. I shot the most photos yesterday around these pools, that had seemly been taken over by Chihuly, Lilies, and more importantly Dragonflies. That Nikon 70-300mm VR is still surprising me in it's performance and consistent quality. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions or comments are both welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - I Still See You

I Still See You by Jeff.Hamm.Photography

There are always two places I absolutely have to stop when in the Bird House of our St. Louis Zoo. That's the toucans because they love to play, and then this little burrowing owl. He's awesome because he knows he's tough... and a little under a foot tall. He always likes to get closer to the divider and watch me as I shoot photos of him. This one obviously incorporates his environment with him in the middle as always, eyes locked on me to make sure I was keeping in line. POTD - Timing Synchronize

Almost a couple of weeks ago, we had another Echinopsis bloom. Only this time, we had all three of our little ones bloom at once! Two of them had three blooms, the other had one, so in all we had seven flowers in one night!

This was also the day I had the new Nikon Coolpix A for shooting that day for a photo contest at work. This is the photo I submitted. That little camera is quite impressive, it's a fixed 18.5mm lens on a compact camera that has a full DX sensor! It's really quite amazing, still a bit expensive for what it is, but it's the first of what it is realistically. I had fun shooting with it and can definitely see the draw.

POTD - Vibrant Light Reflectivity

One thing I've always liked about Dale Chihuly's work, and I've heard him say this before too, is just how unique the medium of glass is. The that these pieces all glow differently in different light is astounding. The detail and thought that goes into each individual piece and then into the whole installation is a testament to how great his team really is. Plus they are always very photogenic, which of course is great for me. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Bell Chimes

Something I don't really do a lot of is Black and White. Not that I think it's over done or anything, I just think like a lot of things, moderation is the key. The texture in the Bell Chimes that can be found at Missouri Botanical Garden are bronze. The texture from that was perfect in the early light for this to be B&W. Since I don't do a whole lot of B&W, any suggestions or comments are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Can't Win Them All

Last night some coworkers and I drove out to Wellsville Missouri to shoot new moon and some starry skies. Everything looked great for a good night, all until we got there and got set up. That's when the clouds moved in, and moved in to stay. This was an early shot in the night where we still had a few stars. If we get a good sky next month, this spot could prove very useful. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Fourth Of July Fireworks Friday

Here's one of the better shots I grabbed last night while taking in the ever awesome St. Charles County fireworks display. I don't go to the downtown St. Louis display just because it's a sea of humanity that I'd rather not deal with. :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Nature's Harrier

Shooting with my new 70-300mm VR at Missouri Botanical Garden, I tried my hand at some of these little dragonflies. The perfect backdrop with the Dale Chihuly pieces in the water, these little dragonfly was quite settled on this flower bud which gave me a chance to snap a few frames. Really makes me want to get a macro into the park... :) Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!

POTD - Devil's Rope Star Trail

While we were down at my friend Pat's property, the Devil's Rope Ranch, we had a new moon for star shooting. I didn't notice, as my shots clicked away, that it was in fact getting slightly cooler outside. So from two hours of shooting, I only got shots for about 40 minutes of it because my lens fogged up. For my first try at star trails, I learned a valuable lesson as well as getting some shots to create this. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!
